Delaware State University’s Pre-Veterinary Science degree provides outstanding preparation for careers in veterinary medicine, animal health, and related fields. The Pre-Veterinary Science program covers the fundamentals of animal health, nutrition, genetics, and biology. In addition, Pre-Veterinary students work directly with animals via Delaware State’s demonstration farms, extension programs, and research initiatives, getting hands-on experience with the most current technologies and methods in the discipline.

As a land-grant institution, Delaware State has been at the forefront of agricultural education, research, and science for more than 100 years. There is no better place to get a degree in Pre-Veterinary Science.

Professional Preparation

Students in the Pre-Veterinary Sciences program have the opportunity to develop professional skills and contacts by working with real-world problems through the College of Agriculture’s research and extension programs. With adequate grades, experience and performance, they will be prepared for entrance into veterinary school. Other career opportunities include

Faculty

Faculty members in the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences combine a strong academic background with extensive industry ties and professional experience. As a result, they can offer career guidance and mentorship as well as classroom instruction. Many of our instructors are very active researchers, and they regularly provide undergraduates with opportunities to get involved in scientific investigations and research projects. These experiences can give a student an advantage when applying to veterinary school.  Our small class sizes guarantee a high degree of direct faculty-student interaction.

Research and Experience

Delaware State’s extension programs serve the wider agricultural community, providing assistance with research, training, education, and public outreach. These programs offer Pre-Veterinary Science majors with a range of opportunities to gain valuable real-world experience. In addition, undergraduates enjoy many opportunities to collaborate with faculty in agricultural research. Current research projects related to pre-veterinary science involve such subjects as parasite growth, meat production, and reproductive management in sheep and goats.

All students in the Pre-Veterinary Science program perform a senior capstone project in sustainable agriculture. In this project, students perform a real-world agricultural analysis that integrates factors such as
