Academic Affairs is one of five administrative divisions at Delaware State University. The Office of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs oversees all operations of the Division of Academic Affairs and is responsible for the University’s colleges and departments, the additional locations and related academic activities in coordination with the Office of the President. The goal of the Office is to provide the highest quality teaching, learning and research environments possible and to engage the communities across Delaware, the Mid-Atlantic Region, the nation and around the world.
Led by Dr. Alton Thompson, Provost and Vice President, the Division of Academic Affairs' major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, academic planning and budgeting; program evaluation, assessment and accreditation; educational policies and procedures; enrollment management; professional development, promotion and tenure of faculties, and strategic planning.
Together with the academic deans, department chairs and directors, Academic Affairs provides leadership in curriculum and program development, advances the teaching and learning environment, promotes creative and scholarly activities including research and outreach. The Office also administers existing programs, revises and reviews those programs, and provides administrative oversight.
Academic Affairs is assisted in its endeavors by its division units: Academic Enrichment; University Studies and First-Year Programs; the Graduate School; the William C. Jason Library; Institutional Assessment; the Honors Program; McNair Scholars Program; International Programs; Research; Adult and Continuing Education; Registrar; University Art Gallery; Title III, Land Grant Programs, and the five discipline-based colleges: the Colleges of Agriculture and Related Sciences; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business; Education, Health and Public Policy; and Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology.
