$18.2 Million over 5 years: March 2014 to February 2019
NIH – National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)
The Delaware Biotechnology Institute (DBI) serves as the lead organization in the State of Delaware for the development of partnerships between major institutions of higher education in the State of Delaware relative to Biomedical Research initiatives. The DBI spearheaded the Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (BRIN) and the INBRE has been a continuation of the efforts advanced through BRIN and the first two rounds of INBRE grant. Renewed in 2014, the Delaware INBRE renewal builds on the previous grant in furthering statewide development of biomedical research capacity in Delaware.
While the BRIN was established to assist state organizations and institutions of higher education in building biomedical research infrastructure, the INBRE strengthens the capability of Delaware scientists to apply for and win RO1 grants in biomedical research by utilizing and building on the infrastructure established through the BRIN research grant.
The objectives of the Delaware State University INBRE are to:
Expand research opportunities for faculty and students.
Enhance the level of expertise of faculty and students.
Provide a continuous forum for research ideas and involvement of students.
Provide a network for easy access to research techniques, resources and technology.
Improve existing research core facilities.
Increase the outreach activities related to biomedical research.
Improve the instructional delivery system and information technology system related to biomedical research.
Encourage students to become involved in activities related to research as well as medicine.
Enhance the recruitment efforts of minorities through continued introduction to the DBI core facilities.
Multidisciplinary research projects are conducted in these three (3) major research areas:
