Under the theme “The Magic of a Kingdom,” D’vontae Scott and Imani Washington were crowned as the 2024 Mr. and Miss DSU during the Sept. 29 Coronation Ceremony.

Earlier that same day, the 2025 Student Government Association took their oaths of office. Both ceremonies were held in the William B. DeLauder EH Theatre on campus.

The 20th Mister Delaware State University – D’vontae Taelon Scott

D’vontae Scott, born November 14, 2003, is the youngest of three children to Dourthial Scott and Steven Jenkins. He said he developed a strong sense of community and ambition growing up in his native Detroit, Michigan.

After graduating from University of Detroit Jesuit High School, D’vontae chose to attend Delaware State University, majoring in Management with a concentration in Marketing.D'Vontae Scott said he's determined to make a positive impact and leave a legacy at DSU and in his hometown Detroit.

D’vontae’s leadership journey at DSU began during his first year, when his peers elected him as Mister Freshman. That same year he joined the Men of Color Alliance and the Black Male Initiative. In his sophomore year, D’vontae served as a Residential Assistant in Jenkins Hall and held the title of Mister Men of Color Alliance. While he continued to work as a residential assistant during his junior year, he was also elected as Mister Junior and became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

As a Strada Scholar, D’vontae is committed to being a changemaker in his community, dedicating himself to mentorship and community service. This motivation inspired his campaign platform, K.O.D. (King Enhancing Unity, Outreach to Community, and Dedication to Growth), aimed at uplifting and inspiring others in the same way he was once inspired.

After graduating, D’vontae plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Above all, he is determined to continue making a positive impact and leaving a legacy in his community, both at DSU and back home in Detroit, Michigan.

 

The 68th Miss Delaware State University – Imani Bryanna Washington

Born on March 1, 2003, Imani Washington is the only child of Terry Washington and Thomas Gracia. Imani was born and raised in Harlem, New York. As a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of Greater New York, service and putting others before herself have always been core values for her. Imani graduated from Notre Dame High School, where she discovered her passion for leadership.Imani Washington said her goal is to break generational curses within Black families.

Currently, Imani is a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Financial Planning. Student leadership has always been a part of her undergraduate experience, as she has served as SGA Corresponding Secretary (2023-2024), Miss Sophomore (2022-2024), SWAU Vice President (2022-2024), Financial Planning Club Recording Secretary (2023-2024), Hornet Ambassador, Political Science Student Instructor, Wellness Recreational Membership Service Supervisor, and various other leadership positions.

She has also been a member of E.L.I.T.E, Companion Champions, Hornets In Motion, LIFT, Caribbean Association, Healing Hornets, Women Senate BSLS Program, F.O.R.C.E, and Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society - Upsilon Pi Chapter. Academically, she has been a Dean’s List Scholar six times.

Imani proudly stands on the platform Queen Reloaded 68th, advocating the belief that everyone is a king or queen of their own life, regardless of the challenges they face. During her reign, she will focus on professional development programs, community service opportunities both on and off-campus, and being a supportive friend to every Hornet.

Upon graduation, Imani plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration, with aspirations of becoming a financial advisor. Her goal is to break generational curses within Black families and to leave a lasting legacy in her school and Harlem community, demonstrating that with determination, anything is possible.

Mister & Miss Sophomore – Malik J. King, a Biological Sciences major (concentration: Health Professions) from Detroit, Mich.; and Nia D. Dooley, a Elementary Education major from Indianapolis, Ind.

Mister & Miss Freshman – Cavhon A. Logan-Peay, a Business Finance major (minor: Computer Science) from Detroit, Mich.; and Tommi N. Crump, a Pre-Veterinary Medicine major from Philadelphia, Pa.
