The historic election of Dr. Wilma Mishoe as chairwoman and Dr. Devona Williams as vice chairwoman of the DSU Board of Trustees was celebrated at a greet-and-meet reception held Sept. 26 in the MLK Jr. Student Center.

More than 400 people – largely faculty, staff, administrators, fellow board members, Greater Dover community members as well as extended family members of the two new board leaders – attended the reception to give their collective best wishes to the new board leadership.

Last week, Dr. Mishoe and Dr. D. Williams were both sworn in by Gov. John Carney, who by law is an ex-officio member of the board, along with DSU President Harry L. Williams.

In addition to administering the oath of office to the chairwoman and vice chairwoman, Gov. Carney remained and participated in the rest of the board meeting. It is believed it was the first time that a Delaware governor actually attended a meeting since former Gov. J. Caleb Boggs attended a then-Delaware State College Board of Trustees meeting in 1959.
