Dr. Bradley Skelcher to Speak on Medical Experimentation on Slaves
Dr. Bradley Skelcher, DSU associate provost and professor of history, will give a presentation on “The Medical Experimentation of Enslaved African Americans at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Mishoe 139A (north).
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Dr. Skelcher will discuss how slaves were forced to undergo medical procedures without anesthesia and against their will as a means of helping doctors develop surgical procedures. He will also share how aged and infirm slaves were often provided to doctors for medical experimentation.
