DSU Students Recognized by Alzheimer Association

Thursday, March 31, 2016

The Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer Association recently recognized a team of DSU students who didn’t let the adversity of a threatening hurricane deter them from raising money in support of research on the disease.

Justin Sherard, a junior biological sciences major and team captain, and Deidre Carter, a biology graduate students, recently received  certificates of appreciation for their hard work organizing the DSU team for the planned Alzheimer Association Walk in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Oct. 22 last year.  The DSU continued to raise the money, even though the event was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Joaquin on that weekend.

The DSU team of about 65 students – under the team name of Hornets for a Cure” –  raised $1,163 for Alzheimer’s Research and Caregiver support.  The Alzheimer Association recognized the DSU students as the  "Top Collegiate Team" and also presented the team with a trophy for the "School Spirit Award.”
