DSU’s Valerie Dinkins Selected for Higher Ed Leadership Institute

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Valerie Dinkins, executive director of the DSU@Wilmington site, has been selected to attend the Zeta Cohort of the Higher Education Leadership Institute to be held Dec. 7-10 at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark.

Ms. Dinkins was one of 25 Fellows chosen for the prestigious HBCU-connected institute.

“I am fortunate to have been chosen to attend this institute,” Ms. Dinkins said. “It is an invaluable opportunity to engage in a highly interactive program, gain knowledge, develop deep relationships and develop tools that will help strengthen our commitment to the work for HBCUs.”

Admission to the Zeta Cohort provides the Fellow access to and engagement with sitting and former HBCU presidents, senior HBCU administrators, HBCU thought-leaders, corporate leaders, and executive recruiters. The Leadership Institute is designed to encourage networking and the development of professional relationships, collaborations, and communities of practitioners.

The Leadership Institute will offer an intimate, interactive, professional, and personal development experience that provides each Fellow with a unique and valuable opportunity to assess personal vocation and leadership skills, reaffirm a continuing commitment to HBCUs, as well as identify and enhance the essential qualities for a successful tenure as a principled and effective leader and senior administrator.

The institute is conducted by the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, whose mission is to prepared principled, highly skilled, transformational leaders in higher education with an interest in assuming positions of leadership at HBCUs nationally.
