Held in the parlors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center, the First Lady’s Tea celebrated three honorees:

Dr. Beatrice “Bebe” Coker – New Castle County educator, playwright and activist.

Dr. Mable R. Morrison – A 55-year music associate professor of music at Delaware State University

Ms. Esthelda “Stell” Parker-Selby – A long time Sussex County educator, public servant and DSU alumna (Class of 1971).

In addition, the First Lady’s Tea Committee honored the Virginia L. Carson as the event’s “Co-Chair Emeritus.”

Separate music performances were presented by recording artist NeeCee Trott as well as by Anyree Frazier, a junior DSU music industry major. Danielle Epting, a DSU honor student majoring in psychology, emceed the event.

The First Lady’s Tea was founded as an annual community event in 2016 by former First Lady Dr. Robin Williams, wife of former DSU President Harry L. Williams. During the 2017 First Lady’s Tea, Dr. Robin Williams announced the event would be named in memory of Margaret Oliver, the wife of Wilmington businessman and former DSU Board of Trustees member Norman Oliver.

Mrs. Oliver passed away in 2015.
