Renowned saxophonist Eric Darius performs with Del State musicians
As another manifestation of the opportunities students have at Delaware State University, a group of its music majors recently performed on campus with internationally known saxophonist Eric Darius.
Mr. Darius, who is also a renowned songwriter and producer, took the first-floor stage in the MLK Jr. Student Center, along with seven Del State music majors, making for an Oct. 15 musically charged lunch hour in the campus’ student union.

After sharing with the MLK audience some details of his life story and career progression, Mr. Darius performed a few solo selection, and then jammed on few numbers with the following Del State musicians: Jaden Adkins, drums; Dylan Bottomley, trumpet; Rashawn King, keyboard; Sam Mace, keyboard; Zack Papen, guitar; Asad Williams, bass; and Alyssia Woodard, vocals.
Mr. Darius’ career has produced seven highly acclaimed albums – which have included three No. 1 hit singles and 12 songs that have reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart. He was recognized in 2004 as the Smooth Jazz News Debut Artist of the Year, and since then he has garnered a number of other honors that has solidified him as one of the top saxophonist on the jazz and music scene today.
