The University Triathlon Team recently received a check for $2,000 from the City of Dover Department of Parks and Recreation for the intercollegiate squad’s assistance in the running of the June 22 Dover Duathlon.

The Triathlon athletes hosted a June 21 special clinic to provide participants with a course review and transition tips. The team then helped set up and facilitate the actual Duathlon event at Schutte Park in Dover.

About 95 participants competed in the Duathlon – which consisted of a 1½-mile run, a 13-mile bike ride, and culminated with a 1½-mile run.

In addition to facilitating the event, four University Triathlon members also competed in the Duathlon, with Hornet Ava Larkin winning the overall event.

Helping to facilitate the Duathlon were University Triathlon members Danielle Fleurima, Chara Hinds, Nora Pierre, Ashley Stanley, and Lison Ziegler, along with Ms. Larkin and Head Coach Hannah P. Loftus.

“As a coach, I am extremely proud of how these athletes give back to the community and represent Delaware State University,” said Coach Loftus. “It was our pleasure to assist with this event, and we appreciate the City of Dover Parks and Recreation’s generous donation to our team.”
