 Delaware State University held its 13th annual Prayer Breakfast in which it featured a compelling message from an alumnus and a outstanding musical performance by the DSU Concert Choir and a guest soloist.

Held on Sept. 15 in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center, the gathering of almost 300 attendees heard a keynote message from Pastor William A. Sims Jr., Senior Pastor of Mother UAME Church of Wilmington, Del. He is also a 1992 DSU alumnus. His message centered on the importance of prayer.Pastor Wm. A. Sims Jr. of Mother of UAME Church in Wiimington and '96 alumnus, gave the keynote message.

The 94-voice DSU Concert Choir inspired several standing ovations through the performances of  the Roland Carr arrangement of the Negro National Anthem, “O’ Perfect Love” by Stephen Murphy, “I Got a Song” by Colin Lett, and the tradition benediction “May the Lord Bless You and Keep You.”

There were guest musical selections from Pastor Donald Ashley of Greater Life Christian Church of Star Hill, Del.

The following gave specific prayers during the event:

  • Rev. Dr. Cory Jones, Sr. Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington, N.J. – a prayer for faith, unity and transformation.
  • Apostle Frank Burton, of Perfect Will Ministries, Inc., of New Castle and a 1985 DSU alumnus – a prayer for interfaith, government and community.
  • Ms. Sydia Campbell, President of Reformed University Fellowship at DSU – a prayer for DSU students.
  • Mr. Will Henry, Treasurer of Reformed University Fellowship at DSU – a prayer for DSU faculty and staff.
  • Imam Arqum Rashid, of the Islamic Society of Central Delaware – a prayer for health and healing.

Pastor Bernadette Mills, Senior Pastor at Through The Word Church in Wilmington, Del., served as the Mistress of Ceremonies and also gave the Blessing of the Food.

The University presented its 2023 Community Partner Award to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. The award was accepted by Highmark President Nicholas A Moriello.

Welcome and greeting remarks was given by University President Tony Allen; Dr. Debbie Harrington, 1st Vice Chair of the DSU Board of Trustees; and Mr. Nasai Oliver, President of the DSU Student Government Association.
