DSU Professor establishes an institution of higher education in native country
Fulfilling aspirations is not only a highly desired outcome for Delaware State University students.
The dream of Dr. Constance Beugre, Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship, to establish an institution of higher education in his native West African country of Ivory Coast has become a reality.
Dr. Beugre is the founder and president of Seeka University, a private institution established in 2021 in the Ivory Coast city of Yamoussoukro. Seeka University has a School of Entrepreneurship that currently offers a bachelor’s degree program in Business Administration and plans to begin offering an MBA program in the fall of 2024.
Seeka University also has a School of Engineering and Technology that offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Computer Engineering, an Institute of English Language, and a Unit of Continuous Education.
Although French is the principal language in Ivory Coast, all of the curriculum is taught in English. “English is the language of science, technology, and business, and many parents and students see the value of an English-type education,” Dr. Beugre said.
The English Language Institute offers a three-month certificate program in English. Designed to accommodate working professionals, last year, the Institute had 76 students.
The four-year degree programs began in the fall of 2021 with four students. Currently, it has 11 students. Seeka University’s curriculum is delivered in both face-to-face classes and virtual classes online. Presently, the University has seven faculty members.
Seeka University is sanctioned to operate as an institution of higher education by the Ivory Coast Ministry of Education.
“We project that the first graduates will complete their degrees in May 2025,” Dr. Beugre said.
