DSU’s Dr. Kalpalatha Melmaiee honored for International Women’s Day
Dr. Kalpalatha Melmaiee, Associate Professor of Agricultural and Natural Resources, is among several women scientists celebrated by the Feed the Future Climate Resilient Cereals Innovation Lab (CRCIL) as part of the March 8 International Women’s Day.
Feed the Future CRCIL is connected with the U.S. Government’s Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative.
The organization celebrates Dr. Melmaiee for her research in developing climate-resilient genotypes in crop plants. With more than 35 years of research experience that utilizes classical genetics, plant breeding, cutting-edge genomics, and molecular biology tools, her crop subjects have included pearl millet, sorghum, corn, rice, beans, blueberries, strawberries, industrial hemp, and sugar maple.
Dr. Melmaiee is the Director of the Plant Breeding and Molecular Genetics Laboratory in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, DSU College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
