The increased use and utility of the DSU Hub app

Thursday, September 5, 2024

Delaware State University is now connecting with all its constituent groups more than ever through its DSU Hub App.

The University launched the innovative app in August 2022 with over 90% of that year’s freshman class becoming the inaugural users. By the end of that academic year, the DSU Hub app had attracted 3,000. Fast-forward two years to the current beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, and the DSU Hub now has more than 6,000 users.

The app is not just for current students. It also provides DSU Hub environments for faculty/staff, prospective students, parents, alumni, and visitors.

Students, faculty, and staff can use the app to keep track of countless information, such as events, schedules, due dates, grades, student account info, campus maps, walking navigation, and so much more. The DSU Hub allows users to access all University and mobile apps and serves as a one-stop shop for everything DSU.

Launching this fall will be a fully integrated social experience incorporated into the existing DSU Hub student feed. Through it, students can see posts from all university social accounts, from DSU’s Original Facebook page to the SGA and CAB Instagram pages.Aaliyh Agboola, a DSU students, accesses the student organizations page on the DSU Hub app.

Aaliyh Agboola, a sophomore nursing major from Georgia, said the DSU Hub is a useful app that she uses for a variety of purposes.

“I use DSU Hub to check the shuttle schedule. I live in the (University) Courtyard, and I need the shuttle to get to the main campus or go to DSU Downtown,” Ms. Agboola said. “I used the app during my freshman year to find (student) organizations to join.”

Another new DSU Hub feature to be launched this fall is the Athletic Experience, which will allow you to access all things athletics, including information about your favorite sports and athletic events, and even view game streams.

Information that is available on the DSU website is also available on the DSU HUB, but the app provides it in a more concise and familiar format. Launched last fall and relaunched during the current semester is the DSU Hub’s version of our student portal page, my.desu.edu.

The DSU Hub app is the brainchild of Curtis Winslow, DSU Associate Director of Mobile and Web Applications Development, who worked closely with Dr. Dawn Mosley, Senior Associate Vice President for Marketing and Community, in developing and launching the app.

Mr. Winslow said that a significant benefit of the hub is its ability to reach every user – registered students, prospective students, parents, and visitors.

“If they have the app, we can reach them.  Sending a global message about what is happening at the university reaches every user who has the hub installed,” Mr. Winslow said. “We used the words ‘game changer’ when we launched the hub, but it has done more than that. It has created its own playing field.”

By August’s first day of classes, the app had welcomed 1,500 new users and logged an impressive 11,000 opens. Dr. Mosley said that is an unprecedented achievement that underscores the app’s significance and wide-reaching benefits.

“The Hub app has revolutionized how we connect with our students, fostering a strong sense of belonging while providing a safe space for them to navigate and build connections,” Dr. Mosley said. “Curtis Winslow has played a pivotal role in maintaining the app’s momentum, driving continued interest among our university community, alumni, and parents.”
