DSU’s Madisen Fields crowned Delaware’s National American Miss

“Growing Confidence” is the trademark of the National American Miss pageant program, and it’s something that rising senior Madisen Fields took to heart as she competed in the program.

Over the summer, Fields, a psychology major from New Castle, Delaware, made history by being crowned Delaware’s first National American Miss pageant winner.

“I am so thankful to have been able to compete in my first pageant and not only walk away with the crown but also fun memories, new friends, and different learning experiences,” said Fields.Madisen Fields, Delaware's National American Miss 2024-2025

The NAM program prides itself on being more than just a pageant; it is a platform for young girls and women to practice skills like clear communication, poise, and confidence about who they are and their passions.

“The program required a lot of hard work,” said Fields. “But it was through the program that I gained more confidence and trust in myself.”

The program’s competitors completed one-on-one interviews with a selection panel, participated in a live, on-stage personal introduction competition for judges and an audience, and modeled their favorite dress on the runway.

Fields credits her coursework at Delaware State University for helping her prepare for the rigorous communication aspects of the competition. “My Intro to Speech course was beneficial,” said Fields. “The coursework laid a foundation on learning how to

communicate effectively in public, have proper posture, and tips on how to fight anxiety.”

With her newfound crown, Fields hopes to draw more attention to causes she feels passionate about, such as the I Am My Sister’s Keeper organization in Dover, Delaware.

“It’s a great organization,” said Fields. “We reach out to young children who have endured trauma and hardships and provide encouragement and mentorship. We also regularly host fun events where we watch movies, write poetry, host game nights, and more.”

Fields says she will continue to seek opportunities to inspire young children and women to overcome obstacles in life.

“Madisen Fields has been an innovative young lady who is definitely on her way to success,” said Marcille Sewell, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Delaware State University.

“Her patience, kindness, and endurance are a few of the skills she is passing on to the young girls in the ‘I Am MSK-Dover’ chapter.”
