Thursday, January 30, 2025

As DSU Head Football Coach DeSean Jackson launches a new era of leadership and mentorship for the Hornets, during his first full week on the job, he has engaged with Greg Coverdale, the Director of the Wealth Management Program, to share the wisdom of financial literacy among students.

Recognizing the importance of financial education, Jackson recently addressed Mr. Coverdale’s Wealth Management class, sharing valuable insights from his experience as a professional athlete. He discussed the financial challenges that often accompany a career in sports and the importance of making informed financial decisions. Greg Coverdale (l) shares his perspective on financial literacy with member of the Hornet football team.

In turn, Mr. Coverdale spoke to Jackson’s football team, emphasizing the significance of financial literacy and how it can impact their lives both during and after their DSU academic journey.

While an official partnership has yet to be formed, the interactions between Coach Jackson and Mr. Coverdale represent a promising beginning. Both leaders are committed to empowering Delaware State’s student-athletes and the broader student community, equipping them with the tools necessary to manage their finances effectively and prepare for their futures.

Coach Jackson, a former NFL star known for his exceptional talent on the field, is equally passionate about off-field development. Since arriving at DSU, he has already made a significant impact, emphasizing the importance of character development alongside athletic excellence. His vision extends beyond football, aiming to cultivate a generation of well-rounded individuals who are skilled athletes and responsible citizens.

Coach Jackson and Mr. Coverdale’s discussions reflect a shared vision for enhancing the student experience at Delaware State. Together, they aspire to foster an environment where student-athletes can thrive on and off the field, transforming them into informed and responsible individuals.
