DSU’s LaKresha Moultrie appointed as Del. Secretary of Labor
Delaware State University is losing its top legal expert, and the State of Delaware is gaining a new cabinet secretary.
Governor-elect Matt Meyer has announced the nomination of DSU’s LaKresha Moultrie as Secretary of the Delaware Department of Labor. Moultrie’s appointment is pending Senate confirmation. According to the Governor-elect’s press release, the appointment marks a key step in Meyer’s commitment to creating a robust workforce and ensuring equitable opportunities for all Delawareans.
“LaKresha brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Delaware’s workers. She is a proven leader with a track record of empowering individuals, advocating for workers’ rights, and driving economic growth,” said Governor-elect Matt Meyer. “Her leadership will be critical in building a Delaware where every worker can thrive, from expanding workforce training to ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions.”
Ms. Moultrie began her DSU tenure in 2019 as its General Counsel. Since then, she has been elevated to her current title, Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel, and Chief Enterprise Risk Officer at Delaware State University. Before coming to DSU, she served nine years in the Delaware Department of Justice in an ascending number of posts, culminating in her work as the Chief Deputy Attorney General.
“LaKresha is a tremendous leader of people, and I’m more than confident that her knowledge, experience, and sound judgment will serve the state well as she becomes our next Secretary of Labor,” said Dr. Tony Allen, President of Delaware State University. “LaKresha also has a unique ability to execute on a vision — to turn ideas into reality. I know she will work tirelessly and effectively to advance Governor-elect Meyer’s priorities, to protect and expand the rights of Delaware workers and their families.”
As Secretary of the Department of Labor, Moultrie will oversee the First State’s labor relations, worker safety, unemployment insurance, and workforce development programs, focusing on creating quality jobs, strengthening labor rights, and reducing employment disparities in underserved communities.
Ms. Moultrie’s appointment as Secretary of Labor will have to be confirmed by the State Senate.
