FINRA visits Delaware State University, engages with students on careers in financial services

Wednesday, March 26, 2025

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA®) recently visited Delaware State University to engage with students and provide insights into the financial services industry. The discussion covered FINRA’s role as a regulatory authority for brokerage firms and exchange markets, career and internship opportunities within FINRA, and the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam.

Eric Chandler, FINRA vice president of member supervision’s strategy and program risk group, and Claudia Headrick, program manager of testing and continuing education, led an interactive session with students from Dr. Akash Dania’s managerial finance class and members of the Investment Club.

The conversation explored career pathways, professional development, and FINRA’s role in maintaining market integrity. Students also discussed emerging financial industry trends, including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and responsible investing.

The visit reflects Delaware State University’s commitment to preparing students for careers in financial services and fostering relationships with industry leaders to enhance educational and professional opportunities.

“This visit provided our students with critical exposure to the financial services industry, offering direct insights from industry experts on regulatory frameworks, career pathways, and emerging trends,” said Dr. Akash Dania, professor of finance and faculty advisor to the Investment Club.

“Engaging with FINRA professionals allows our students to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, equipping them with knowledge and credentials—such as the SIE exam—to set themselves on a successful career path. We sincerely thank FINRA for their continued support in preparing our students for the industry’s future,” said Dr. Akash Dania.
