Two DSU students receive Henry Conrad Scholarships for high GPA
Two DSU students recently learned that a high grade point average can pay off.
Clayten S. Thomas, a senior Law Studies major from Westbury, N.Y., and Kailee Louise Banks, a junior Accounting Major with a Law Studies Minor from Bryans Road, Md., are each a recipient of a $500 Henry Conrad Legal Scholarship.
Mr. Thomas won his scholarship for having the highest GPA (3.92) among Law Studies majors. Slated to graduate in May, Mr. Thomas aspires to be a corporate attorney specializing in private equity law.
Ms. Banks won her scholarship for having the highest GPA (3.94) among Law Studies minors. After graduating, she plans to attend law school and become a corporate attorney.
The scholarship is named after Henry C. Conrad (1852-1930), who was a prominent Delaware attorney and historian. He also figured greatly in the early history of Delaware State University, as he was an inaugural 19-year member of the Board of Trustees of the then-State College for Colored Students 1891-1909. During most of his trustee tenure, he served as the Board’s Secretary-Treasurer – making him essentially the College’s finance director during the school’s fledging years.
