DSU real estate club gains valuable industry insight during CBRE visit

Tuesday, April 1, 2025

Under the leadership of Jasmin Jackson, a senior business management major and president of the Delaware State University Real Estate Club, nearly 20 students had the opportunity to visit CBRE, one of the world’s largest commercial real estate firms. The March 20 visit provided students with valuable first hand exposure to the real estate industry’s inner workings and professional opportunities.

The day began with a tour of CBRE’s Radnor office, where students observed the company’s workspace and operations. From there, CBRE executives engaged the group in discussions about leadership structures and the evolving landscape of the real estate industry.

“Our students showed up eager to learn, dressed professionally, and took full advantage of the opportunity,” said Charles Fowler, an academic advisor and trip chaperone. “It was incredible to see them engage at such a high level.”

The visit featured multiple interactive learning experiences, including a panel discussion where CBRE professionals shared career advice and insights into the company’s strategies. Students also participated in a pitch competition, honing their communication skills with one-minute presentations for upper management.

Beyond the office setting, the group explored the King of Prussia Town Center, where they toured a vacant retail space and the management office to gain a real-world perspective on commercial property management and development.

“The professionals we met were so generous in sharing resources and offering actionable career advice,” said Skai Thompson, a sophomore finance and banking major. “I learned about career paths I didn’t even know existed.”

For many students, the experience was eye-opening, offering exposure to an industry that thrives on strategic communication, networking, and project management.

“It was inspiring to see individuals from diverse backgrounds succeeding in commercial real estate,” said Skylar Sumter, a junior business management major. “CBRE’s work environment and operations really piqued my interest.”

Jackson, the founder and president of the Real Estate Club, emphasized the importance of these experiences in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

“This trip was a major step in our mission to connect students with real estate opportunities,” Jackson said. “We are committed to fostering relationships with industry leaders and creating pathways for our members to thrive.”

As the DSU Real Estate Club continues to grow, Jackson and her peers remain focused on securing more hands-on learning experiences to help students explore the dynamic world of real estate.
